Why You Can Never Go Wrong Whenever You Buy Lottery Tickets Online
Suppose there was a big lotto draw a few months back and you missed the pot by one number. Does it have to end there because you lost? Not really, because according to Andy Thompson of the Post Crescent in Wisconsin:
Given the astronomical odds of winning the Powerball jackpot — 1 in 175,223,510 — most of the tickets purchased by wannabe millionaires wind up in the garbage after a drawing.
But not all of those trashed tickets are losers. Some are worth money, but haven’t been redeemed because players are unaware they won non-jackpot prizes. And that pot of money continues to grow.
Since 1997, more than $50 million in lottery winnings have gone unclaimed in Wisconsin, Post-Crescent Media has learned.
In the most recent fiscal year, which ended June 30, unclaimed winnings amounted to $2,843,570, according to Wisconsin Lottery spokesman Andrew Bohage. That figure represents only lotto games — Powerball, Mega Millions, Megabucks, Supercash, Badger 5, Pick 3 and Pick 4 —and doesn’t include unclaimed winnings from instant, scratch-off games.
It’s a fact of life that people want more money in their pockets to help pay the bills and at least have some financial security for the future. There are many ways to earn that money legitimately outside your regular work income. One way is to join the lottery in the hopes of nailing the one jackpot that will set you up for life, but if you don’t like lining up at the nearest lotto outlet, getting your lottery tickets online through companies like Buy Lottery Tix may work.
Wisconsin state lottery rules dictate that “ticket-holders have 180 days from the drawing date to claim winnings” – or otherwise, “all unclaimed money is sent to the lottery’s property tax relief fund.” Bohage claims that lack of awareness about a “series of lesser cash prizes for lotto games” may be partly to blame for the unclaimed winnings.
Thompson noted that in the state’s Powerball draws, the lesser cash prizes range between $4 to a cool $1 million for just guessing five winning numbers. However, the data for the winnings shows two “unclaimed $1 million” prizes while a few unclaimed tickets were worth $10,000. “With big jackpots, you have people who don’t play the game regularly,” Bohage laments, referring to the fact that the players only come out in full force when the pot money is in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
According to other lottery officials in the nation’s Dairyland, the 2012-13 fiscal year have reaped sales of about $565 million.” A breakdown showed that “$326 million” in sales of scratch-and-win games and “lotto tickets brought in about $239 million.” However, officials could not say whether the lotto sales were from physical locations or through online lottery tickets like those sold by Buy Lottery Tix.
If there’s one thing to learn from the Wisconsin lottery scene, it’s about not losing hope that you may have won a modest amount of money. While applying for online lottery services will cost a modest sum, the payoff will be worth it upon learning you won a good amount.
